Last week I posted about Laurie & Clint’s colorful engagement photo session in downtown Des Moines. Well today I’m happy to share with you images from their Iowa wedding! The couple tied the knot on the 9th hole of the Webster City Links Country Club. I always love a golf course wedding because you can count on well manicured grounds that make great backgrounds for photographs. To start the day off, Clint and the guys played a round of golf while Laurie and her girls got ready at her aunt’s house nearby. I think the best comment of the day came from Laurie who, after getting her makeup done looked around the living room at all her girls sipping mimosas, exclaimed with a smile on her face, “This is so much fun! I didn’t think it would be this much fun!” That was the tone for the whole day – stress free bliss – just as it should be!
The couple decided to go with a first look, seeing each other before the ceremony, so that we could get photos done ahead of time and they could go enjoy the reception with guests right after the ceremony. I’m always a big fan of this because not only are you allowing plenty of time for photos, but more importantly it allows the bride and groom a moment to themselves without tons of people around to just enjoy each other on their wedding day. I also love capturing the expression on the couple’s faces as they see each other for the first time and it sinks in that they are actually getting married.
I loved Laurie and Clint’s color palette. The bridesmaids wore lavender dresses while the groomsmen wore matching purple ties. The bouquets were very vibrant, created with a mix of florals in purple, pinks and creams. It all tied in nicely with the lush greenery that surrounded them. One of my favorite touches of the day were the hand made lanterns that hung from the ceiling of the reception tent. It made it feel so elegant! One of my favorite moments of the day was when the little flower girl, the couple’s daughter, spontaneously joined hands with her parents during the final prayer. It was so perfect!
