Giving Back | The Furry Scurry

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” — Roger Caras

Giving back is important to me. Find out how you can help me raise funds for the Dumb Friends League.

The Dumb Friends League is the largest community-based animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain Region. They welcome every pet that comes to its doors and gives them shelter, veterinary care, foster care, behavior training and lots of love until they can find new homes. As their website states, they are “committed to serving as a compassionate safety net for all pets and all people at all times” – so as you can imagine they are a pretty big operation.

Last year alone, The Dumb Friends League took in over 20,500 lost and surrendered pets? Of those pets, they were able to reunite over 1500 pets with their people, transferred out over 1500 pets for alternative placements, and placed over 14,700 pets into their new forever homes. Those are some impressive statistics! But, with that comes a hefty price tag. And since they rely on donations for their lifesaving work, not government contracts or funds from national groups, raising money is very important to keep the organization going, providing a safe haven for pets in the metro area.

One of the organization’s most successful fundraising events is called the Furry Scurry. It’s an annual 2 mile long dog walk held in Washington Park that typically the event draws in over 12,000 people and over 5,000 dogs each year. While more than 150 vendors and sponsors offer pet-related products and demonstrations at the event, a lot of work is done long before the event by the many independent teams that are working hard to raise money for the Dumb Friends League.

As you all know, I am very passionate about giving back to my communities and I do a lot of research to make sure the organizations that I’m backing are worthwhile. The thing I love about the Dumb Friends League is that 81 cents of every dollar donated goes towards animal care, education and outreach. That’s impressive as a lot of the larger national organizations only use pennies on the dollar for what they actually advertise. When I heard that statistic, and knowing how many homeless pets there are in the metro area, I knew the Furry Scurry was something I wanted to be a part of and support.

This is my second year of participating with the Furry Scurry, and while I’m not able to walk in the event again this year, I’m working hard to raise money for my team. The event is this only days away (Saturday, May 7, 2016) and I’m still working on reaching my goal of $500 and helping my team reach it’s overall goal of $50,000. Just imagine how many pets we can help with that money!

If you’d like to help out with my fundraising efforts, you can make a donation online.

Anyone anywhere can donate and no donation is too small! I appreciate anything you are willing to give! Help me raise money for this amazing cause and help the homeless pets in the Denver metro area. I, and the furry friends like Rosco pictured above, appreciate your support!
