This is Gabby! She chose to do her graduation pictures in the middle of August, right before school started back up for the year. The day of her session was perfect! It was a mostly sunny morning which gave us some great lighting, but also had a little bit of a cloudy haze that helped soften some of the harshness. Contrary to popular belief, bright sunny days aren’t always the best for photos because we have to find locations where the sun isn’t right in your face and oftentimes we wind up looking for the shadows. So the slight haze on Gabby’s session day was perfect! And we shot in the morning so we could finish before the heat of the day set in.
Gabby wanted a mix of locations for her graduation pictures. We started out by shooting right around the studio, finding some great spots with bright colorful flowers, an alley with some brick and greenery, and also photographed outside of the bank near the studio that has great columns. I love how much variety we got within 2 blocks of the studio!
We finished up Gabby’s session down by the St. Croix River. Her blue dress went great with the tall grassy area and then we went down to the beach for her last outfit. One of the best parts of shooting down by the river – you never know what you’ll get until you get down there! When the water level is higher this area can be completely flooded but the day of Gabby’s session the water was lower, so there was a lot of beach area and some great big driftwood logs to sit on. Mom even got in a few photos which I think makes these graduation pictures that much more special. A day these two will definitely remember!
