Denver Colorado & Iowa Portrait Photography | Calvin & his family come to the studio

I love photographing kids simply because each one is completely different! I love getting to know them and capturing images that parents are going to cherish forever. Lots of times people are amazed at how patient I can be with them and greatly appreciate the extra time I take to capture their personalities.

Calvin is a very energetic and super smart 4 year old. While I was setting up the first background for the session, I happened to notice that he was sitting in my big brown chair watching me very intently. I had never seen a 4 year old sit so still, usually they are running around checking out all the books and photos I have around the studio. His mom made the comment that he’s watching so closely because he’s trying to figure out how to tear it down later! Becky had warned me that Calvin can be a little over the top, energetic at times so I knew that not overwhelming him with different squeaker toys to get his attention would be the key to the session. So instead we had him snuggle with mom and dad, played the hide the penny game and gave him different chairs and things to stand on – I mean what kid isn’t excited to stand on a chair, something usually forbidden at home! Becky had even brought a kimono that her grandpa had given to her. She wanted a picture of Calvin in it to match the one she had of herself when she was young. I love little personal touches! The best compliment came at the end of the session when Becky told me how great of a job I did. She was so happy that I had been very patient and that we were able to accomplish everything she had wanted. I love my clients! 🙂
