Jennifer & Wyatt say I Do underneath a breathtaking golden tree in Iowa
What happens when a graphic designer and a DJ tie the knot? Great design, unique details and an crazy amount of fun! Jennifer and Wyatt wanted their wedding day to be focused on their love, being surrounded by friends and family, and having a blast so it was only natural for them to opt for a small laid back ceremony in their backyard followed by a really fun reception.
Jennifer is a graphic designer, so of course she’s drawn to color, and the fall season in Iowa can be quite vibrant. Most of their property is surrounded by evergreens, but in the middle of their yard stands a tall maple that turns a gorgeous golden color in the fall – the perfect backdrop for their ceremony site. But of course as seasons go, you never know if you are going to get a lot of color, or how long it will stay around but in this case we lucked out and it was gorgeous on their wedding day. They designed a beautiful color palette around the warm fall colors, pulling in pops of red, teal, purple and green. Being a sucker for jewel tones and bright colors in general, I loved how colorful Jennifer’s cascading bouquet was!
When I first started talking to Jennifer and Wyatt about their day and what it would look like she described it as “dorks in love”. She also mentioned that they loved the 20’s era and would be pulling a few nods to that decade into their design. I loved the birdcage veil she wore because it gave her some fun style without being too over the top for their laid back feel. Each member of the bridal party wore custom Converse shoes that had their nick names stitched into the back heel seam – a great personalized touch! They also worked in a few other special details into the design such as the Lego people into the bouquets and boutonnieres, a different one for each person that matched their personality. Tying in their love of music, and their professions as DJs, the couple used a keyboard aisle runner to lead them to the alter.
The music theme carried over to their reception decor as well, using vinyl records as centerpieces and as their guest books. They wanted the feel of the reception to be a fun, laid back party so they kept things simple with a popcorn station for a little pre dinner snack, a build your own nacho bar for the main course and ending the evening with a smores station.
Jennifer and Wyatt definitely had a fun time on their wedding day. From the First Look that was full of smiles and giggles, to skipping down the aisle after saying “I Do”, to cutting a rug on the dance floor with their fellow DJs.
Congratulations Jennifer and Wyatt! Thank you for letting me capture your amazing wedding day!
