So pretty sure that I’ve found my floral designer who will be designing my wedding day flowers and her name is Danielle with Studio Fleurette in Stillwater. This is my second photo session that I have done of her flower arrangements and they are just fantastic! The flowers she uses and the colors she puts together are just stunning. Not to mention I love all the little details she puts into the design like the decorative pins she attaches to the ribbon on the stems or the metal wire she uses on the boutonnieres (which I absolutely LOVE by the way!). I know that no matter what I dream up in my head for my wedding day flowers, Danielle’s design will completely surpass my expectations. Now that I’ve got my floral designer, all I need to find now is a groom! :-)

My friend Lori, a wedding planner and one of the owners of veiled events in Woodbury, got me in touch with Mike & Heather. They are getting married this coming October and were in need of a fabulous photographer to photograph their special day (….that’s where I come in :D ). So we met at the studio, showed them all my cool products and images, signed a contract and booked a date for their engagement session!

With my engagement sessions I like to take the couple to a fun location outside of the studio. This is our chance to play around, get some fun images and get to know one another. I knew right off the bat that Heather and Mike were not the back alley/grunge type of a couple but more of the relaxed/nature setting type. I knew I wanted to take them somewhere different, somewhere I had never been before and instantly thought of the Minnehaha Falls Park in Minneapolis. I had seen some amazing photos taken there and decided the green grass and trees would make for some excellent backdrops for the couple. We had everything planned out – Mike would come up from Iowa for the weekend (like he does most weekends….now THAT’s LOVE!) and we would go out on Saturday morning for the session. But of course, Mother Nature had to rain on our parade…it was SUPER cold and rainy all day! But never fear – Sunday turned out to be an amazing day with sun shining and temps almost back to normal!

I had such a blast wandering around Minnehaha Falls Park with Mike and Heather, exploring the new location and creating some intimate portraits of the couple. I can’t wait until their wedding day!!! We’re going to have a blast! Thank you Mike and Heather for being such an adorable, fun couple :-) If you’d like to see more of Mike and Heather, check out my facebook page.

Spring is officially here – the grass is turning green, the flowers are coming out of the ground, and the weather is getting warmer allowing us photographers to get out of the studio and back to the fun, on location sessions. The past couple of weeks I’ve had a lot of inquiries for engagement sessions and I’m loving it! I’m finally getting back in the groove of photographing people after spending the past three months doing more commercial work. I love spring!

This year is the first year that I’m officially doing weddings on my own for the studio and so far have three on the books. One of them is my cousin, Amanda’s, wedding back in Clarion, Iowa. Their date is set for the end of June so it’s definitely time for their engagement session :-) When I was home over Easter, we set aside some time to do their photos around Clarion. We hit up some of the local “landmarks” like the Gazebo and went out to Lake Cornelia. I also found this amazing rusted stair case in one of Clarion’s alley ways. It was quite an adventure, I must say, as I braved walking into some prickly weeds with only flip flops on….ah what one must do for great photography! :-) I had a blast photographing these two and can’t wait to photograph their big day! Now on to designing a fantastic guest book to go along with their custom designed announcements. Thanks you two for a wonderful afternoon!

Two weeks ago (WHERE is the time going?!) I met Lynn & Brandon at The Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis for a fun engagement session. They are getting ready for their upcoming wedding, Vegas style, in May so I was glad the Minnesota weather turned nice so we could do some photos outdoors as well. We first started in the Guthrie, exploring the different levels. Pretty sure my favorite spot was the level with the yellow windows overlooking downtown. Since Lynn works for DSW we had to do some fun shots with her new, killer heals! Then we headed outside and captured a few images just as the clouds rolled in. Love the ones in front of the old mill! Totally doesn’t feel like it’s downtown Minneapolis does it?! Want to see more from this awesome engagement session? Check out my Facebook page! Congratulations Brandon and Lynn! Have fun in Vegas! :-)

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of photographing Amie and Jacob’s wedding in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Being back in my old stomping grounds and driving down Main Street again was very nostaligic. It was fun being back in the area and I was so excited to get started photographing the happy couple especially since it was a great day outside – slightly cloudy but no rain (which was almost unheard of for October this year!) The ceremony was held at the United Methodist Church in downtown Cedar Falls, a beautiful church with a lot of character. After capturing a couple images of the girls getting ready, I swept the happy couple off to one of my favorite places in the church – a landing off the sanctuary that had an old organ and great natural light. I always love placing something contemporary and modern with something antique.

Since it was so nice out we decided to do the group shots outdoors in front of the wooden door to the church, which created a perfect background. The wedding party was great to photograph – always laughing and pretty sure there was never a dull moment (as you can tell by the apperance of the “Captains”!) After the ceremony, we headed off to the reception at the new Sky Events Center in downtown Waterloo. The reception was a nice, relaxing time with friends and family – the perfect ending to the perfect wedding day. Congratulations Amie & Jacob. Thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

A couple days ago I was going through my blog to see what I had, and had not, blogged about and was surprised that I had ZERO wedding stuff on this new one. SO I decided today that it was time I took a break from editing and updated my website and blog. It was a whirlwind of a summer, shooting weddings all over the metro area and even a couple out of state – some for my own studio and some partnered up with other studios in the Cities. So without further ado – here are just a few of my favorite shots from this wedding season. Want to see more? Check out the wedding image album on my Facebook page and my website for lots more images :-)
