It’s almost the end of the school year, which means we’re gearing up for the new class of seniors! Kristina Lynn Photography & Design is currently taking applications for our Senior Models program. What are senior models, you ask? They are fabulous seniors who become rock stars by being featured in our advertising and represent the studio in their schools while getting some cool perks in return. We’re looking for anyone and everyone – jocks, cheerleaders, band members, chess players, YOU NAME IT! So if you’re wanting some amazing senior photos and want to be a part of the area’s newest up and coming portrait studio - fill out this application! Only 5 positions per school will be filled so contact us today to make sure you get in! We look forward to hearing from you!

I have the greatest puppy in the world. Her name is Bella and she’s a 2.5 year old Yorkie/Bichon. What makes her the greatest puppy in the world? Well, she’s got a HUGE personality, she’s always by my side (currently she’s under my desk with all her toys, waiting for me to play with her) and she lets me photograph her :-) A couple months back I had gotten a new background and wanted to try it out so I packed up Bella and hauled her to the studio for a little mini session. She was perfect! I put her where I wanted her and she stayed put for the whole session! When I was looking through the images at the end of the session, I loved how I was able to capture all of her emotions as well as a few hysterical blinks. Yep, pretty sure I’ve got the best puppy in the world!Bella animal portrait photography in studio Stillwater, MNBella animal portrait photography in studio Stillwater, MNBella animal portrait photography in studio Stillwater, MNBella animal portrait photography in studio Stillwater, MN

Some days product photography is my favorite thing to do. It’s a lot easier than chasing a small child around the studio with a camera trying to make them smile! And once I get the lighting just right (which sometimes can be a little tricky) it’s fairly easy because, again, the products don’t more after I put them in place. So when my friend, Jim, from Morningside called and said he was in need of photos of his mom’s pottery for her new website he was designing, I jumped at the chance to photograph some inanimate objects and catch up with an old friend.

Until I got to Connie’s studio just outside of Alta, Iowa (can you say ROADTRIP!) I had no concept of how beautiful the pieces were going to be. They were amazing! She’s got quite the collection of pieces ranging from plates and bowls to lamps and angel statuettes. And, little did I know, that this is more than just Connie’s passion, but it’s also her husband Jerry’s as well. They’ve been making pottery pieces and selling them at art shows for years. I absolutely love the rich colors they use and the detail they put in to each piece that is made.

These are just a few of my favorite images and just a few of what the Braunschweig’s have to offer. Definitely check out their website to see more and to see what shows they are going to be at (don’t worry Minnesotans – I’m sure they’ll be doing some shows up here in the Cities this year as well!)

Owning a photography studio means you get to meet a variety of people and do a variety of sessions. No two days are ever the same. It’s fun to go from season to season – photographing high school seniors in the summer then switching gears to family sessions in the fall and then doing more commercial session in the winter. Seems like ever since the new year started people and businesses have started thinking about updating websites and business cards with new photos. This session was just a LITTLE bit different.

Matthew and I met back in college at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Being art majors (my focus was in photography and advertising while he did more graphic and fine arts) our paths crossed once or twice  in various classes. When Matthew decided to expand his art career and start approaching galleries here in the Cities in hopes of displaying his Andy Warhol-esque pieces in their shows he knew he would need some professional photography done. So to help kick off his self promotion, he packed up some of his favorite pieces and brought them up to my studio to get some photos of him and the artwork. He also found a company that will help him sell replications of his artwork online so he was in need of high resolution files of each of the pieces to submit. So we started out at my studio photographing each painting and then we headed just down the street to a great empty space I had found here in Stillwater to finish up the session. We had decided that since the artwork was very clean and contrasty on its own, we wanted a space that had clean white walls to really make the artwork stand out and be a focus in each of the images. This space worked perfect!

These are just a few of my favorite images from the session, more are posted on my Facebook page. If you’d like to see more of Matthew’s paintings and graphic design work, check out his website. And definitely make sure you contact him if you want to purchase any of his amazing artwork!

While I was back home in Iowa for the holidays, I decided it would be the perfect time to do my little sister’s maternity session since she is about 8 months pregnant. So I packed up all my studio lights and backgrounds and hauled them to Clarion. I had a blast doing the session! She so cute pregnant! :-) We did a couple different outfits and backgrounds, some more artistic than the others. I wanted a good variety to put in the First Year Album I’ll be doing for Baby Watts as well as some nice portraits she could hang in the nursery or around the house. We couldn’t talk her husband into being in the photos with her (he’s usually not the first one to volunteer for such things!) but we did get a couple cameos by Maddi, the pup. :-)

If you’d like to see more photos from this session, visit the studio’s website or facebook page.

Well it’s officially here….the year of 2010. Not quite sure how 2009 managed to slip by so fast, but it did! Seems like just yesterday I was filling out the paper work and getting ready to start my business – and now here we are, almost a year later. I want to thank all my wonderful clients and blog followers for making my first year in business a success. I am truly looking forward to the upcoming year and what it all has in store for the studio. I’m currently working on updating the website with new images and information (and maybe even a new look…we shall see!), working on new, unique products to offer my clients, and also taking time to learn new techniques to improve my photography. If you’d like to keep in touch and up-to-date on the new things at Kristina Lynn Photography & Design, sign up for our newsletter and subscribe to our blog.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your family. And I hope to see you in the studio soon! :-)

Jennifer is the sister of one of my senior clients this past summer. She decided my Limited Edition Holiday Session offer was the perfect excuse to come in for a family photo with her two little ones. The biggest challenge of the session was getting little two year old Riley to sit still long enough to get a photo with older sister Savannah. As soon as we figured out to give her the candy bracelet and con her into “hiding” it from me, I was able to capture lots of smiles. Photographing kids can be so much fun! :-)

I met Judy at one of the monthly Chamber mixers. We chatted a little bit about business (she’s a realtor with Edina Realty) and I told her about the awesome Limited Edition Holiday Sessions I was doing this month at the studio. She thought the short 30 minute session and holiday card deal was a great idea so she talked her kids into it and they came to the studio last week for the session. It was a fairly nice, November day with great lighting provided by the overcast skies. We hit up an alley way in downtown Stillwater for an urban feel then headed down by the river to capture some more casual shots with the bridge and what was left of the fall color. I had so much fun doing the session and got lots of great shots for their holiday cards!

AND if you’re reading this and wanting to know how you can get in on the Limited Edition Holiday Sessions – call the studio today at (651) 491-5571 to book your session. There’s only a couple slots left and the special ends at the end of the month!

A couple weeks ago, I photographed the ribbon cutting at St. Croix Music, a music store located on the North end of Main Street in downtown Stillwater. Since the store is new (only been open since March), owner Gary Brown needed some good photography of the store’s interior for use in some upcoming print ads as well as for use on his website. So this past Monday, I gathered up my gear and headed to St. Croix Music for a small commercial shoot. Not only did I capture some of the front retail part of the store, but also of the practice rooms where music lessons are taught. If you’re in the market for a new instrument, some sheet music or a lesson or two, stop on down to St. Croix Music and check them out!
