I just got the news today – I’ve been selected to receive the prestigious WeddingWire Bride’s Choice Awards™ 2012 for wedding photography! This annual award recognizes the top local wedding vendors from the WeddingWire Network, which includes leading wedding planning sites WeddingWire, Project Wedding, Brides.com, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Weddingbee, who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism within the wedding industry. While many industry awards are selected by the organization, I was selected based on the awesome reviews from past newlywed clients. This recognizes the best local wedding vendors across different wedding categories, from wedding venues to wedding photographers, based on their overall professional achievements throughout the past year.

Children’s Photography | Adorable National Children’s Contest

I am proud to announce the launch of the 2012 Adorable National Children’s Portrait Contest at the studio! This is my second year of doing this contest and I’m so excited start photographing cute kids everywhere! High School Senior Portrait Photography | Abby’s Senior Session

I had so many amazing seniors this year that I feel so blessed and thankful to be doing what I love as a career! Abby’s session was one of my favorites just because she’s so darn photogenic and comfortable in front of the camera. The day we had planned on doing her session it had turned out to be SUPER windy but I had just gotten some new backgrounds in and one worked perfectly with her outfit and dark features so we played around in the studio for awhile. We wound up having to reschedule her outdoor part of the session, and hoped for a non windy day… which didn’t work out so well. If you lived in Iowa this past fall, you’ll remember how crazy windy it was, almost every day! On the rescheduled session day, it was still breezy out, not as bad as the other time, but we decided to have a “make it work” moment and give the outdoor shots a try. We actually were able to find some sheltered areas around town and then headed out to Lake Cornelia for a different look. I’d say we were successful and between the two sessions we got some killer images! Check these out:

High School Senior Portrait Photography | Kelsey’s Senior Session

Kelsey was one of my amazing 2012 seniors. I had such a blast going around Clarion for her session: hitting up some alleys, Daisy’s on Main and a couple other places that were significant to her. She brought super cute outfits, complete with accessories, and I love how she had different looks too – dressy, casual, country, urban – my favorite being the little black crop jacket! She was just so down to earth and comfortable in front of the camera, I’d love to photograph her again some day

It’s a 1 hour session in our new studio space in Cedar Rapids, 1-2 outfits and $100 in portrait credit to use towards any of our prints or products. Perfect for the people who just want a few photos to choose from and are limited on time.

The Urban Collection – Want the high fashion, grunge, back alley look that is super hot right now? The Urban Collection is the way to go! You get a mix of both studio and urban locations with this session that last up to 1.5 hours. Choose from various urban locations around the Cedar Rapids area and change your outfit up to 3 times to get a variety of images to choose from. You also get $150 in portrait credit to use towards any of our prints or customized products. This is our most popular collection by far!

The Location Collection – The ultimate design-your-own senior session collection. This session lasts up to 2.5 hours and is at a location of your choice within 20 miles of Cedar Rapids. You also get unlimited outfits with this one as well for amazing variety in your images. Then use the $200 in portrait credit to purchase those must have wallets, wall portraits, albums, customized grad announcements or any of our other products. If you really want to feel like a model and want lots of images to choose from, this is the collection for you!

High School Senior Portrait Photography | Maxx’s Class of 2012 Senior Model Session

Every year I try and pick out a couple soon-to-be seniors who would be great at promoting my studio and make them my Senior Models for the year. Their job is to help get my studio name out to their classmates, tell them about the super cool things I do to make each senior session special, and persuade others to come book with me by offering special discounts that they can only get from a Senior Model. Since I was a little bit in limbo at the beginning of the year, I didn’t have the chance to really hit up the Cedar Rapids area for Senior Models like I had hoped, but did get in with the seniors back in my hometown of Clarion. That’s where Maxx comes in – my Senior Model for the year One of the perks to being a Senior Model is not only do you get really creative senior portraits, you also get a model session earlier in the spring when you are still a junior. The purpose of this session is to create images for the marketing and promotional materials that are used to help spread the studio name around. So these are just a few of my favorites from his senior model session – just wait til you see the stuff we got at his actual senior session (blog post to come!).

Commercial Photography | Kitchen & Bath Remodels

Commercial photography is a nice break from my normal routine of photographing people. It’s a fun challenge to walk into an area and have to figure out how to light it properly in order to really show off the features of a room. These images are some remodeling projects that Cates Fine Homes in Stillwater, Minnesota have recently done. I love all the details they put into each and every project they do. If you’re in need of a home remodeler or builder in the Twin Cities, definitely check them out.

Iowa Portrait Photography | Expecting

She wanted to do some fun, creative shots to document her second pregnancy and she even talked her husband into coming with! They are such a cute couple and make such cute babies – can’t wait to meet the newest addition to their family.

Children’s Portrait Photography | Khale Turns One!

I can hardly believe that I have photographed this little guy for a year now! It all started with his newborn session, and now, here we are, celebrating his one year milestone with a super fun kid’s session complete with a cake smash! It has been such a great year watching this little guy grow up and develop an awesome personality. Pretty sure there hasn’t been one session where he wasn’t smiling and hamming it up for the camera. LOVE it! Can’t wait to photograph his second year

Engagement Portrait Photography | Matt & Megan

Matt & Megan are the most laid back couple I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are up for absolutely anything and really gave me creative freedom not only on their engagement session but their entire wedding design suite (more on that later in a different post!). The only request they had was to be able to incorporate their racing background into the session somehow. Since they are more relaxed/casual than super formal, we did part of the session in the studio and then headed to downtown Marion to find some grunge alleys for more of an urban look, hitting up a park along the way. These guys were so comfortable with me and the session that they just looked so natural in the photos – which I love. If they are this comfortable in front of the camera now, their wedding day is going to be a breeze!
