It’s been a whirlwind past couple of months with relocating to Iowa that I have neglected my blog. Time for a much needed update with photos of my recent, amazing children’s sessions. I’ve added new backgrounds and props (check out the tutus!) and am so glad I’ve been blessed with the opportunities to try them all out in the recent month. Twin Cities Family Portrait Photography | Bailey & her family at Axdahl’s Garden Farm

Last year I had the privilege of meeting Bailey, her mom and her grandmother at my Limited Edition Fall Sessions last fall at Axdahl’s Garden Farm. They loved the photos I took of Bailey last year so much that they wanted to do a family session this year. I must say that even though the day was a little chilly it was MUCH better than last year at this time so I can’t complain too much. We did some outdoor photos among all the pumpkins and mums as well as some fun photos in the barn by the hay. Thanks guys for letting me photograph Bailey again this year and your whole family as well!

Iowa Family Portrait Photography | The Schleisman Family session

AHHH! So far behind in editing and blogging but must. keep. up! So these next few posts are going to be short – just to warn ya

A couple of weekends ago, while on a trip to Iowa (surprise surprise right?) I got to finally the Micki I’ve heard so much about and her fantastic family. They recently purchased a new house and as a house warming gift, one of her friends hired me to create a family portrait for the wall in their living room. What a great idea! And since Jason is a volunteer firefighter, and had access to the restored 1938 fire truck, we decided to incorporate both the fire truck and the new home into their session. Here’s a few of my faves.

Iowa Family Portrait Photography | Liz & Jeff’s family session

For Liz and Jeff’s family session I had this vision of doing family photos in tall prairie grass and create something really nice and dreamy for their new home. However, there is definitely one big difference between Minnesota and Iowa when it comes to photographing outdoors – in Minnesota finding tall grass is easy as pie – in Iowa….not so much! Since I couldn’t find tall grass easily in the area (other than in the ditches and near railroad tracks – PROBABLY not the safest place to do family photos with a one year old!) I turned to Jeff and Liz for ideas as to where we could do their session. They suggested we try Fish Pond Park in Eagle Grove and BINGO! It was perfect! A nice pond, a big rock we could pose on and the best part – TALL GRASS!!!! Oh I was like a little kid in a candy store! After capturing some great images, perfect for wall art, we headed back to the main street area of Eagle Grove and did some photos of them with their Harley. By this time, Paige had almost had enough photos for one day, but after a little persuasion and a game of catch with my keys we were able to grab a couple shots with the bike Definitely check out my facebook page for more photos of this cute family!

Twin Cities Family Portrait Photography | The Thompson Family

One thing I think all business should do is be able to share with the community and every once in awhile donate to local causes. Last year I did just that by donating a gift certificate to The Partnership Plan’s annual Jeans & Jewels Gala, which leads me to this session with the Thompson family. They were lucky enough to win my certificate and just book and fantastic family photo shoot at their home in Stillwater. When I talked to Heidi and she told me they lived in a great older house, I knew we’d have some fun places to photograph the entire family. Their front porch was great. I loved shooting from all the different angles and doing the different family groupings, but I’d have to say my favorite spot is the front steps with the house in the background. The lighting was amazing there plus we got to do some fun shots with the family dog A big thanks to the Jeans & Jewels fundraiser that brought me and the Thompsons together! And if you’re a business looking to donate to a local cause I highly recommend donating to Jeans & Jewels!
